Celebrating International Women’s Day 2018

Every year on March 8th, we take the opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women and to recognize their successes. International Women’s Day highlights women as epitomes of intelligence and leadership on a global scale and to celebrate, the Be a Host team at Tourism Vancouver would like to acknowledge three of the many women who have demonstrated their leadership as conference local hosts.
First, Dr. Adeera Levin, most known as the head of UBC’s Division of Nephrology, has worked with us since 2003 to host the 2011 World Congress of Nephrology. Since then, she has not only excelled in her field as the Executive Director of the BC Provincial Renal Agency but also contributed her skills as the Editor-In-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Kidney Health & Disease. She then took on the role as the President of the International Society of Nephrology from 2015-2017. Dr. Levin is a true leader in this space and we congratulate her on all of her accomplishments.
Dr. Connie Eaves, host of the 2014 Annual Meeting to the International Society for Stem Cell Research
Dr. Connie Eaves was the local host for the 2014 Annual Meeting to the International Society for Stem Cell Research. As the professor of Medical Genetics at UBC as well as the scientist at the Terry Fox Laboratory and BC Cancer Agency, she is an important researcher in the field of breast cancer as well as the treatment of leukemia. On top of all her achievements, recently it was announced that she had been awarded the Dr. Don Rix Award for Lifetime Achievement by LifeSciences BC. We send you our heartfelt congratulations!
Dr. Caroline Cameron, chair for the 2019 STI & HIV World Congress
Dr. Caroline Cameron, a professor at the University of Victoria, is a leading researcher in the field of sexually transmitted infections. Her recognized skills have gained her the right to receive International funds by the National Institute of Health and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. She is also the President of the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Research (ISSTDR), and will be the Chair for the 2019 STI & HIV World Congress that we worked together to secure in 2015. We can't wait to welcome her colleagues and world-wide leaders to Vancouver next year.
These role models and experts in their fields are inspiring, and by celebrating International Women’s Day we hope to shine light on the accomplishments of women, and to encourage a new generation of female leaders. We send support to all the women in the world, who elevate the future of their industries.
